Architectural Photography in Atlanta: How a Building Earns Its Portfolio Images

An architect spends two or three years on a building. I get one or two days with it. That imbalance is always on my mind when I show up to photograph a finished project in Atlanta, and it is why I never treat an architectural shoot as a quick documentation job. The building already has a story. My work is to find the hours of the day, the vantage points, and the details that let it tell that story clearly.

Atlanta is a photographer's city, if you wait for it

This city is a mix that few others have. The glass towers of Midtown, the brick warehouses along the Westside and the Beltline, the mid-century houses tucked into Druid Hills and Buckhead, the new campuses rising in Alpharetta and around Tech Square. Every one of these needs a different approach. A tower wants the last ten minutes of blue hour when the sky and the interior lighting balance. A renovated warehouse wants hard morning sun raking across old brick. A residence wants a soft overcast day and the patience to let a room breathe.

I scout before I shoot. I check where the sun will fall on the primary facade, which neighboring buildings will cast shadows, and when the street traffic thins out. Then I plan the day backward from the best light.

Images built for how architects actually use them

The photographs I deliver are meant to work hard: for your website and portfolio, for AIA and design award submissions, for magazine and online publication, and for the proposal you will send to the next client. That means straight verticals, honest color, clean compositions, and a mix of wide establishing views, mid-range spatial shots, and material details. I also always make a few frames with people moving through the space, because a building without life can look like a rendering.

I photograph for architecture firms, interior designers, landscape architects, developers, and builders across Atlanta and the Southeast. Some projects are one-day shoots of a single house; others are multi-visit campaigns for a campus or a mixed-use development that needs to be photographed through the seasons.
